The name of the campsite comes from the breton word « pen » meaning extremity and « poul », meaning pond so together means « head of the pond ». Years ago there were a number of ponds and Paimpol was a peninsula. During the spring tides the areas around the station and the Champ de Foire flooded.

(100m from the campsite). The Beauport Abbey remains one of the most important architectural religious buildings preserved in Brittany and was declared an historical monument in 1862 at the instigation of Prosper Mérimée.

Founded by count Alain de Goëlo in 1202, the medieval abbey succeeded a monastic establishment built on the Saint-Riom island in the bay of Paimpol.
